The opioid crisis has had a devastating impact in North America and around the world. We are focusing on the crisis in Calgary and the underlying causes that the public may not be aware of. Our project includes studying the history of the opioid crisis and the lasting effects that it has had on Calgary’s healthcare system, examining the policies and practices that are already in place to mitigate the danger, and looking to the future for recommendations and changes that will end the opioid crisis for good. We hope to approach the opioid crisis from all angles – economic, political, and social – in order to develop a comprehensive and holistic study that will inspire change and sympathy for all those affected; healthcare workers, addicts, and their loved ones.
