Goal 3: Good Health & Well-being
... improve the overall happiness and well-being of working Calgarians?
Happiness and well-being are commonly overlooked in today’s busy society. Working Calgarians often place more emphasis on achieving career goals and paying off their homes rather than self-care and personal fulfilment. Many studies have shown the correlation between physical and mental health and how the absence of one can greatly affect the other. Around 50% of the taxes Canadians pay goes towards the health care system, and the majority of that money goes towards treating people who are already ill. It has been estimated that the economic burden of mental health costs Canadians about $51 billion dollars per year.
Stress, anxiety and depression result in lower productivity and poorer physical health which impacts the economy and health care system.
